For our math today, we are continuing with measuring but with the added challenge of estimating first!
1. Pick a non-standard unit of measurement -- something you have lots of! (Paper clips, Lego pieces, macaroni . . . so many different things can work!) 2. Pick 5 things around your house to measure. 3. BEFORE YOU MEASURE: Estimate the height or the length of whatever it is you're measuring. Estimating means taking your best guess at what the answer will be before doing the work of measuring. Let's say you are measuring with macaroni; look at whatever it is you're measuring and take your best guess at how many pieces of macaroni long or high it is BEFORE you measure! 4. After you estimate the length or height of what you're measuring, do the measuring! Was your estimation close? |
